What does breathing have to do with performance?
We had a great time at the Wine & WOD last Friday evening. A handful of us were crushing ice baths when everyone showed up. As soon as we wrapped the ice baths up, we kicked everything off. Everyone crushed the workout and the Crisis Center of Comal County received quite a few donations.
Ply Family Wellness was out and about as well! For those who signed up with them, they donated 100% of sign up fees to CCCC! I thought that was pretty intense. Thank you guys for being there!
Something I noticed while the workout was happening…
People really don’t like to breathe. This is something I see a lot of in gyms everywhere. When our intake and exhaust is interrupted, movement quickly turns for the worse. We can’t have that and expect to stay healthy. If I am breathing inefficiently causing my movement to falter and I continue to bang out questionable reps, I am practicing to be good…at questionable reps.
I spoke about this during our cool down. If you stuff a sock in the exhaust pipe of your car, you can’t possibly think that you are going to get good performance out of your car. The by-product of combustion isn’t allowed to be released. Something bad will happen.
You know what the by-product of work in the form of exercise is? Lactic acid. Lactic acid is the burn you feel when you crush workouts and are not buffering the by-product at the rate it builds. You know what the buffer for lactic acid is? Carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is the gas you expire every time you exhale. It is vitally important for you to rid yourself of the by-product of work as it builds in your system. It is just as important to bring in good clean oxygen on the opposite end of this equation.
If you are trying to build work capacity and are not allowing your breath to lead the charge, you are losing. Remember this, the fighter, wrestler, kick boxer, etc who is breathing better, is winning. Hands down. If this concept is good enough for elite level athletes, it is certainly good enough for all of us average Joes and Janes in the world.
Breathe – Move – Relax
Something to think about.
We are super pumped to be partnered with A’dri Cerda who will be offering a health coaching program. We are extending the start date to July 22nd so that we can get a better idea of who is interested through the Facebook event we are creating. We will be sharing details there and collecting RSVPs. We’re meeting July 22nd at 530pm to interview for the program, discuss details, and answer any questions you may have.
If you’ve been keeping up with our Facebook Live every Thursday for the past few weeks, you’ve gotten a preview of what’s to come. If not, start scrolling through the New Braunfels Crossfit-Sporthalle Facebook page and check out some of those FB Live talks A’dri laid out for you!

We’re still handing out CRISPY 50s!
Bring a friend or family member in who signs up for an unlimited membership and we’re handing you a crispy 50 dollar bill!
Get someone signed up for Daily Grind or Foundations of Human Movement and earn yourself a 20 dollar bill. It might not be as crispy as that 50, but I bet it spends just the same! 😉
You heard it here.
Bring ’em in!
Your weekly workload can be found on the Train Heroic app. This is a free training app that we’ve been using for quite sometime now. Through the app, you will not only be able to see your weekly programming, but you’ll also be able to track your progress. Think of it like a journal, but cooler. 😉
You’ll need to do an app search for “Train Heroic” on your phone. The app looks like this…
Once you download the app, you’ll need to create an account and your access code will be “newbraunfels.”
