Fueling yourself…

We haven’t been talking nutrition so let’s touch on that real quick. We’re only as good as our fuel. You wouldn’t allow me to put so much as a tablespoon of water into your gasoline engine truck. You don’t need to be a mechanic to understand that your vehicle’s performance would suffer with water in the fuel.

I understand we are not machines such as cars or trucks, but there is a very strong correlation between, not only, physical performance and sound nutrition, but also mental well being and sound nutrition. So, why would we fuel ourselves with anything other than high octane fuel?

I’m not saying don’t eat the burger. I am saying a Whataburger Patty Melt is a very ridiculous decision when a bison burger from Muck & Fuss in New Braunfels is within your reach. I am saying that a double double from In-N-Out pales in comparison to some of the grass fed options at The Cove in San Antonio. The fuel is sourced better because the people who run such establishments care about you. 😉

The quality of your fuel very much matters. The more nutrient dense your fuel, the less you’ll need to consume. No need to carry around more weight in fuel than you need to right? No, supplementation doesn’t cut it either. For starters, finding a supplement with decent bioavailability is near impossible. This is your ability to actually take in and utilize what you’ve consumed. Second, and what you’ll find in the book I’m about to recommend, a food product is NOT the sum of its parts. You can break a food item into all of its parts, put each of the parts into supplement form, and never get the same benefits as you would had you just eaten the piece of kale.
